A collaborative way forward
Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS) is actively working with regional collection and sorting partners to step up the recycling of used styrene-based products, which often end up as waste in current treatment systems.
In Germany, SCS and TOMRA, the leading supplier of sorting equipment, have embarked on a study to pinpoint the opportunities for the maximum recovery of styrene-based products from the waste stream. The results will provide the basis for broader recommendations and cooperation.
SCS has also engaged selected regional partners, including Corepla in Italy, Valorplast in France and Plaribel in Belgium, to:
• Improve waste collection through technical and process-related upgrades, for example by enabling the filtering of small yogurt containers and disposable tableware and trays from the waste stream
• Identify the business, operational and environmental advantages of separating styrenic products from the waste stream
In addition, SCS collaborates with policymakers to promote the harmonisation of styrenics collection and sorting practices on the European, regional and local levels.
